There are two parallel ranges of mountains in Ecuador, both connected and traversed by ridges, forming the Ecuadorian Highlands or commonly known as "páramos" or sierra. In the Northern páramos, there are ten snowcapped volcanic summits over 5000 mt. Each majestically showing its own personality and profile along its territory. In the Southern páramos, the mountains are older and lower, has resulted a dramatic topography of bare sculpted peaks and deep valleys.
